What I Got (Myself) For Christmas

In my Christmas Gift Guide, I mentioned how crap I am at present buying. As it turns out, my family also suffers from gift-giving anxiety. We all wish we didn’t, but we do. As a solution, in recent years we’ve resorted to frantically asking one another via emails and texts the old “WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR CHRISTMAS??!” question. While my Mom and older brother Adam have the nerve to give me the classic “I don’t want anything” bullshit answer (’cause they, in fact, do want something), I email the fam nifty gift guides with complete with shoppable links. This year I forgot so I decided to just do the shopping for them. It’s a win, win. I get things I know I’ll like and they’re off the hook. Yes, I know. I am a genius. Plus, I did all my shopping mid-November so when it came time to open presents I couldn’t remember what I’d bought for myself.

If you want to have a look at what I was kindly gifted this year, keep reading!

Once I spotted this Urban Outfitters ABCDFEMME slogan tee (similar) on one of my favorite fashion bloggers Lizzy Hadfield from Shot from the Street, I couldn’t get it out of my head. It was sold out online but I finally managed to snag it at the UO store on Newbury Street. I love how thick, weighty and structured this feels! Perfect for tucking into denim jeans. Can’t wait to wear it when the weather gets warmer. Right now Boston is frigid with temperatures in the negatives. Brrr!

New year, new journals! I haven’t used a proper planner since freshman year of college, but I figured 2018 was the year to jump back into organizing my scattered life. To do lists scribbled on Post-It notes weren’t cutting it. This minimalist salmon pink one is from Shinola Detroit. So far I’m loving it!

In January this year, I got into daily journaling. It’s rare for me to keep up with a daily task, but I’ve stuck with it. While it can sometimes be a hassle, I do love looking back at my old entries. It’s crazy how much changes in a year! While perusing my local bookstore, Brookline Booksmith, I found this navy and rose gold constellation themed journal, which spoke to me. You know I’m a sucker for stars!

Oh, and I got a dainty gold eye ring from Madewell! I haven’t worn rings in probably four years. We’ll see how I get on with this!

More Madewell jewelry! I am a fan, clearly. I picked up some statement star earrings and subtle star studs. Can you sense a theme here? Stars, stars, and more stars! Last January I finally got around to re-piercing my ears after they closed up nearly a decade ago. One of the best decisions I made. I haven’t stopped wearing earrings since!

Ok, so technically these four books were a present for my Mom, but I bought them with the intention of us sharing them… In a classic last-minute shopper move, I went into Brookline Booksmith on Christmas Eve. I was met with hoards of shoppers, who like me, were desperately searching for presents at the last possible moment. It was nearly impossible to navigate the bookshelves freely so I grabbed four books that looked halfway decent and got the hell out of there. For those curious, I picked up:

I’m now five chapters into Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue. So far, so good!

And that’s all! Hope your holidays were as relaxing and fun as mine were!
