A Little Q&A: Beauty, Style, Travel & More

This week, I focused all my energy on brainstorming ways to improve this blog. During one sleepless night, I had an epiphany. Every Sunday or so I’ll post a bit of a creative “get to know me better” piece. Part of the reason for this is to give my blog a personal touch. Upon reflection, I realized that the blogs, Instagram accounts, and YouTube channels I follow religiously, sometimes often for years, always create a personal connection with their audience. As a loyal reader or viewer, I get to know the bloggers. I become invested in their lives and interests. I don’t just want to be a faceless, nameless blogger who never interacts with their audience. It’s useless. It’s boring.

For today’s Sunday blog post, I whipped up a mini Q&A  so you could get to know me a bit better. Questions are mostly focused on my relationship with all things beauty, style, and travel but there are some other bits and bobs thrown into the mix.

Favorite beauty brand? At the moment, NARS for makeup, Kiehl’s for skincare.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live? Seoul, Copenhagen or London.

Most loved clothing item of the season? My Zara aviator jacket.

Makeup item you couldn’t live without? It’s a toss-up between my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and my Covergirl mascara.

Most listened to song of all time? Sea Within A Sea by The Horrors.

Where do you go to find outfit inspiration? Flipping through magazines, scrolling through Tumblr (Fashion Gone Rogue is a staple), and my Instagram feed. Pretty standard, really.

Biggest outfit regret? My middle school years were a trainwreck. Abercombie & Fitch on steroids. More recently this questionable ensemble. Somehow only a year and a half ago. We’ve come a long way…

Best travel tips for first-timers? Research, research, research. That goes for every leg of the trip. Pack smart and pack light. Hostels are your best friend. Oh, and bring a book or two if you’re traveling solo. Best way to keep entertained when alone in restaurants.

First beauty purchase? A Body Shop lip balm from my local mall in Singapore circa 2007. It was from their holiday collection and smelled like gingerbread. I kept it until my move to Boston.

Favorite fashion houses? Gucci. Céline. Rodarte. Chloé.

Influencers or bloggers you look up to? This is hard! For fashion, I’d say Lizzy Hadfield, Megan Ellaby, Louise Ebel, and Debora Rosa. For beauty, I love Claire Marshall, The Anna Edit, and Estee LalondeInto The Gloss is always a staple. That being said, I’m on the hunt for new, talented bloggers, especially when it comes to beauty. I’ve been in a bit of a rut.

Worst travel experience? I don’t have many, but one that sticks out is my time in London in 2016. I chose a cheap hostel near King’s Cross and 12-person room. The hostel’s heat was broken the whole time. Of course, London was freezing when I was there! The room ended up being so cramped (no bigger than my current bedroom) with bunk beds shoved right next to each other so that if you were to roll off your bed, you’d roll right onto your neighbor’s. Plus, the room smelled like dirty feet. Then someone decided to steal my expensive electric toothbrush on my very last day. Misery!

Go-to TV shows for binge-watching? For a good laugh: Parks & Recreation, IT Crowd, The Office. For more “serious” watching: Game Of Thrones, Godless, Black Mirror. My current show is Lovesick, a hilarious British rom-com. I highly recommend!

Favorite season for fashion? Fall for sure! Cozy knits, leather boots, masculine wool coats, longline blazers, leather skirts, layering. Once winter comes around, it gets too freezing to wear much beyond puffer jackets, sweaters and snow boots, which is my current dilemma.

What’s on your beauty shopping list? Makeup! I need some new goodies. The Tom Ford Matte Lipstick, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hr Blush in Exposed, Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder, and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light are on my must-have list.

When you aren’t blogging what do you get up to? You can always find me hanging around hip cafes, perusing the local vintage shops, binge-watching a show on Netflix, or walking my dog Mia in the woods.

Dream vacation? Too many to choose from! Some highlights… A road trip through Tuscany. Skiing in the Swiss Alps. A month in Japan. A tour of national parks out West.

If you could only shop at one store for the rest of your life where would you go? & Other Stories for sure! The best high street fashion. Minimalist jewelry. Killer shoes. They even have an extensive beauty range! Whenever I go on their website I have to restrain myself from buying absolutely everything!

Your next makeup challenge? Tackling highlighters. I only have one and never get around to using it. Switching up my eye makeup look is another. I used to experiment every day, but for the past year I’ve stuck to a matte brown smokey look. Time to get out of my rut!

Where do you see your blog in a year? Hopefully, still up and running! Delivering quality content with well-written posts and eye-catching visuals. An awesome, loyal follower base that doesn’t hesitate to comment or critique. More OOTD posts! I’d also love to connect with more beauty and fashion bloggers out there!

Well, that’s it! I hope you liked this first-time Q&A. As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
