If you’ve followed me on Instagram for a while you know that I have a deep affection for all things NARS. I haven’t professed my adoration for the brand as much on here but on Instagram I routinely feature their products in my makeup looks. The brand that I once lusted after back in high school is now a staple in my makeup routine. As a teenager, I remember pining for their chic minimalist matte black packaging thinking it was the most luxurious makeup brand. No matter what makeup look I rock, natural or glam, a NARS product will always be an integral part of it. Time and time again I promise myself that I’ll test out new brands when I’m in the market for a new product, but alas the NARS counter never fails to lure me back. NARS is my ride or die. No other brand has quite captured my heart like they have.
Today I’m taking you through my ever-expanding NARS collection featuring quite a few Holy Grail and frequently repurchased items. There are no duds on this list! Of course, I’ll include my typical mini overview fleshing out why these are special to me. There’s no end in sight for my NARS addiction. I plan on adding to this in the coming months. What should I invest in next? Suggestions are always welcome!
NARS foundations and concealers are quite possibly some of the best on the market! I think what really seals the deal for me is their expansive and inclusive shade range. It’s incredibly difficult to find The One perfect shade for my skin tone. My skin is an odd mix. It’s pale, but not that pale. It sort of hangs somewhere in between cool and warm toned. Most bases are too fair or too orange. It’s difficult to find the right match! Thankfully NARS always has my perfect shade! I don’t have to search through endless foundations or concealers constantly swatching each shade on the back of my hands unhappy with the results like I do with other brands. With NARS I can quickly find The One without much deliberation.
I have a trove of NARS bases. First up, my NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Deauville, a cult favorite of many beauty fanatics. Even though I just raved about how easy it is to find The One perfect shade in NARS, this one is a tad too dark for me, especially right now. This foundation only works in the summer months when I’m rocking a slight tan which means this doesn’t a lot of wear. I think this foundation is wonderful for big events like a wedding or a night out. It’s on the heavier side coverage-wise. I would describe this as a medium coverage foundation that can be built up a tad if needed. The name would suggest a sheer base but don’t be fooled! This foundation is long lasting and has a soft matte finish. I find that this a great option if you want a foundation that will last throughout the day but won’t leave your face looking cakey or too matte. This leaves my skin with a subtle, healthy glow! While I do love the NARS Sheer Glow, I wish I had gone for a lighter shade because I just don’t get to wear it enough.
The other NARS foundation I own is the Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, a recent purchase that I’ve fallen head over heels for. I reached a point this winter where none of my foundations suited my palest of pale skin. Desperate for a lightweight everyday foundation that suited my very fair skin that hasn’t seen proper sunlight in months, I picked up this tinted moisturizer. I use Finland, the lightest shade in the range. How do I succinctly describe my love for this tinted moisturizer?! So often tinted moisturizers have next to no pigmentation, which I can’t stand! I have uneven skin thanks to redness and acne scars so even though I want lightweight dewy foundations I need a bit of coverage. The Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer has the ideal amount of coverage. Not too much but just enough to cover major skin issues. It’s also not greasy like others I’ve tried in the past so my face doesn’t wind up looking like an oil spill by the end of the day. Even, natural, glowy skin in a travel-friendly squeezy tube! And it has SPF 30?! Swoon! I cannot recommend this enough!
Let’s talk concealers! I’ve already put a spotlight on these two in an old blog post but why not rave about them again?! My holy grail, ride or die, repurchase for life concealer is the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla. True love right here folks… I always tell myself I’m going to branch out to other concealers but this one is too perfect not to repurchase over and over again. I’d say this has medium coverage. I used to think this was full coverage but now that I’ve tested the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer, which is so full coverage it practically covers up my darkest of dark under eyes entirely, the NARS got demoted to medium, though it is buildable. I adore how natural this looks! It blends out so seamlessly and gives my skin a radiant glow. I can use this anywhere. Pimples, acne scars, my dark AF under eyes. My other NARS concealer is the Soft Matte Complete in the shade Vanilla. I don’t love this as much as the NARS Radiant but I think this one is best when used for pinpoint concealing (or spot concealing). It has higher coverage than the Radiant so I tend to use this when I need a touch more concealing if I’m opting for a full coverage base. Though it’s in a pot, this concealer is still creamy and easy to blend using fingers or a Beauty Blender.
Moving onto some other bits and bobs… NARS makes some of the best lipstick around. Their Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are a staple. I have the shades Dolce Vita, a dusty rose, and Cruella, the best red lipstick you will ever try. These were in a mini duo set from Sephora. I wear these a ton (practically every time I wear makeup) yet somehow I still haven’t used them up! I haven’t yet mustered up the courage to invest in the full-size lip crayons, though I really ought to considering how much I wear them. These lip pencils… Where to even begin? One of the best matte lipstick formulas I’ve tried! They last all day long with minimal touch-ups. They fade so beautifully without any patchiness. The pigmentation is insane. They’re matte but feel so velvety smooth and comfortable on the lips. I adore the lip crayon packaging, which makes defining and tracing your lips a breeze!
Another holy grail for many beauty addicts out there and a once massively hyped beauty product in the old school beauty blogging days, the NARS Laguna Bronzer has stood the test of time. This was my first bronzer way back in my early college days. I remember so vividly the excitement of finally, after many years of lusting after it, having this gorgeous smooth matte black compact in my hands! It was mine. At last! I used that bronzer until there was barely any product left in the pan. I finally got around to repurchasing it just to see if my love affair was still there after two years without this bad boy in my life. For right now this chocolate bronzer is just a tad too dark on my pale winter skin but come summer I know I’ll be obsessively using this to warm up my fair complexion. They recently brought out one that doesn’t have the subtle gold flecks of shimmer in it, which is what I have at the moment. I think what makes this bronzer stand out is the shade. So many bronzers don’t suit me because they’re too orange, but the NARS Laguna is smack dab in the middle. Just warm-toned enough to give your face some bronzey glow but still neutral. It’s a good basic bronzer that suits many skin tones, though it might be too dark on paler skin.
At last! My final NARS product. I’m prone to rambling. Forgive me! Some days I get in the writing mood and can’t help but go on and on. Being concise is not my forte! Alright, where were we? Oh, right! The NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, another Holy Grail item I can’t seem to live without. The world of great eyeshadow primers is limited to a select few. I remember sauntering into Sephora last year in search of another good one only to be dismayed when the Sephora sales assistant listed off the NARS and the Urban Decay as the only two she ever recommended. It’s true those two are the best! Though the Urban Decay Primer Potion nabs the Most Talked About Award, I firmly believe that the NARS Pro-Prime is better. While the Urban Decay Primer Potion tends to crease on me some days, the NARS Pro-Prime has never, ever creased on me! It kept my smoky eyeshadow looks intact through grueling 12-hour shifts at the restaurants I worked at last summer. If it can survive 12-hours of sweat, humidity, and tears, it’s a keeper! This primer comes out of the tube in a white cream but blends out clear. It feels a tad silicone-y, which I know some folks heavily avoid since silicone is a pore-clogger but I double checked the ingredients and this doesn’t have any silicone! (I could be wrong because deciphering ingredient labels is not my forte…)
